How do I begin ?

Please familiarize yourself a little with what we do, and how we can assist by scrolling down this FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS page. Afterwards, if you wish to use SVHCS to provide a Nanny or Caregiver, please fill out the form on the Contact Us page, and we will respond in a timely manner.
  1. Typically, the first step that we undertake is to listen and understand if we can provide an applicant within the scope of your needs and requirements.
  2. We will then send you an Agreement and Terms and Conditions.
  3. Upon SVHCS receipt of the completed and signed abovementioned documents, SVHCS will require the mentioned deposit in order to begin providing you with pre-screened applicants (according to your needs and requirements).
  4. Once the applicant is selected by you (the employer), SVHCS will begin processing all paperwork required by all Canadian government entities in order fo you to obtain an LMO. If required, SVHCS will begin some preliminary employer qualification paperwork prior to this step.
  5. SVHCS will connect you to the applicant for FREE (overseas or locally), so that you can communicate with the applicant at your discretion or, when both parties are available.
  6. After the LMO (Labour Market Opinion) is approved, SVHCS will continue to provide you updates and support of applicant until applicant arrives in Canada.
  7. Once the applicant starts working with you, SVHCS will follow-up with you periodically and provide the SVHCS guarantees according to the applicant-type (overseas/local).

Please Note: As of November 01, 2011, the General Minimum Wage in British Columbia has increased to $9.50 per hour. As of May 1, 2012 this wage will further increase to $10.25 per hourhttp://www.labour.gov.bc.ca/esb/facshts/min-wage.htm

Please Note: As of April 01, 2011, there are new additional regulations in place  for employers to follow in order to  hire Live-in Caregivers (under the Temporary Foreign Workers Program) Despite the fact that there are now more regulations that an employer has to follow and additional paperwork to be processed, SVHomeCareServices pricing remains the same, unchanged from the original pricing that was provided since our service began.

SVHCS offers services to any (qualified) employer anywhere in Canada.

Does SVHomeCareServices charge the applicant any fees ?

No, it is illegal in Canada for an Employment Agency to charge a placement fee for anyone coming to Canada under the CIC LCP (Live in Caregiver Program) .

What does an employer need to know before hiring a Caregiver from overseas ?

As an employer, you must meet certain requirements before you can hire a foreign live-in caregiver.

To hire a live-in caregiver, you must:

  • Have made a sufficient effort to first fill your position with a Canadian, a permanent resident or a foreign worker already in Canada;
  • Have sufficient income to pay a live-in caregiver;                                                                    (Option-C Notice of Assessment Print-Out required as of April 01, 2011)
  • Provide acceptable accommodation in your home;
  • Proof of age, if care is for senior people 
  • Proof of age, if care is for children 
  • Proof of pregnancy confirming the pregnancy and due date 
  • Medical Disability Certificate (if care is for someone that is disabled 
  • Make a job offer that has primary caregiving duties for a child or an elderly or disabled person (a job offer with the primary duties of a housecleaner, for example, is not acceptable under the Live-in Caregiver Program, but could be appropriate under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program); and
  • Submit an application for a LMO  with the employment contract to Human Resources and Skills Development Canada/Service Canada (HRSDC/SC).

Does SVHomeCareServices provide employers any guarantees ?

SVHCS provides the following guarantees to employers for its sourced applicants:

    * 1 year for Overseas applicants hired and arriving in Canada under the LCP program
    * 90 days for locally hired applicants. 

* Guarantee allows employer to utilise SVHCS to find and replace an individual without charge if employer deems that the hired SVHCS applicant is not the RIGHT FIT for their pre-specified needs listed in the Employer/Employee Contract - additional conditions apply in the SVHCS/Employer Agreement and Terms.

How long does it take for an Overseas applicant to arrive in Canada?

It depends on what country the applicant is applying from or living in (other conditions apply as well). Some countries have faster visa processing than others. The applicant must pass educational standards, medical evaluation, criminal check and other possible requirements. Roughly described, it can take 3 months + .
